Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K postponed because of coronavirus

A popular race in south Wales has been postponed for the second year in a row because of coronavirus.

The Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10k was set to take place on September 12.

The event regularly attracts large crowds and sees participants run through town centre and past Caerphilly's iconic castle.

However, officials have announced that they have had to relunctantly postpone the 10k event, as well as the 2k race as well.

The annoucement came on the day that Covid-19 infections rates in Wales went up by more than 730.

Caerphilly Council leader Philippa Marsden said: “In the interest of public safety, we have taken the decision to postpone the Bryn Meadows Caerphilly the 10k event as well as the 2k.

“We fully appreciate that many of you are looking forward to joining us in what is always a fantastic occasion for the county borough. But for public health, and that of our spectators, volunteers, event staff and the wider population – we believe that this decision is necessary and will allow the event to reach its full potential when it is deemed safe to do so.”

The 10k and 2k will now take place on Sunday, May 15, 2022.

All entries will automatically transfer to the new date, officials have promised.

The last time the race was held was back in May 2019, after 2020's event was also cancelled due to coronavirus.
