Bryce Young on needing silent count at home: Respect to Cowboys fans

Bryce Young may have a feeling that he’s not in Tuscaloosa anymore.

The former Heisman Trophy winner and his Carolina Panthers took yet another beating on Sunday, their ninth in 10 games this season. This time, it was the Dallas Cowboys who came to town to hand over a 33-10 defeat.

Young, who was sacked seven times and hit ten this afternoon, was asked about the performance of the dynamic Dallas defense.

“Really good defense, really good defensive front,” he said. “Obviously, it’s tough. But that’s no excuse. There’s things that I can definitely do better. As an offense—yeah, that’s a really good defense—but we’re striving, we’re pushing, we wanna be a great offense.”

Well, they’re not a great offense. The Panthers, in the first game after head coach Frank Reich reclaimed play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Thomas Brown, scored just one touchdown and amassed all of 187 yards.

As for his final numbers, Young passed for the fewest yards of his underwhelming rookie campaign. He completed 16 of his 29 attempts for 123 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Young and his unit may have been affected by the traveling contingent of Cowboys fans, who flooded the seats of Bank of America Stadium.

“Obviously, different,” Young said of having to use the silent count at home. “Cowboys fans—they travel well. Respect to them for that. But it’s a circumstance. We do that half the year anyway. It is what it is. It’s a circumstance that we have a ton of reps goin’ silent. Wasn’t a big switch-up, wasn’t a big change.”

Well, there might have to be a different kind of big change to prevent that from being a circumstance.
