Bryce Young not expected to play in Week 3 vs. Seahawks

Bryce Young’s third NFL start is probably going to have to wait.

The Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback sat out Thursday’s practice due to an ankle injury—one he sustained during the Week 2 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Young, who was also listed as a non-participant in Wednesday’s walk-through, has now missed two straight team sessions.

That, per Darin Gantt of Panthers.com, means the 22-year-old is not expected to play on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. 13th-year veteran Andy Dalton, who took first-team reps this afternoon, would be the starter in Young’s place.

Dalton said the following of his preparation for the opportunity earlier in the day:

“It’s always nice because . . . I’ve had a certain way of operating, like, my whole career. And I think when you go from starting to being the backup, that’s one of the things that you miss.

“Scout team’s one thing. You’re lookin’ at a card and you’re runnin’ the other team’s offense. But when you get a chance to kinda take ownership of what you’re doing and to know how you want it to look and how you want it to feel and you actually get to execute it, that’s what makes football fun.”
