Bryce Harper Watch: We’ve reached the Smash Mouth and free doughnuts stage

Welcome to Bryce Harper Watch: A guide, which we just came up with this week, to following Bryce Harper’s seemingly never-ending free agency. Today, we’re covering 90s bands weighing in and free doughnuts. 

How absurd has Bryce Harper’s free agency gotten? We have reached the stage in which we’re talking about everything but where the super-talented outfielder will play in 2019.

Let’s start with Smash Mouth, the band that became popular thanks to hits like All Star and Walkin’ on the Sun, but who has also delivered some sports takes over the years on Twitter.

Here’s a tweet from Tuesday regarding what they’ve heard about how the San Francisco Giants’ ownership and front office feel about signing Harper:

Huh, okay. Maybe Smash Mouth really has sources.

Meanwhile, District Doughnut in Washington DC reminded us all that they’re offering free doughnuts for life if he re-signs with the Nationals, something that seems pretty unlikely at this point. But maybe free doughnuts is exactly what Harper needs to come back since no one seems to be giving him the contract he wants.
