Philadelphia Phillies superstar Bryce Harper took a few games to get up to speed after a late start to spring training, but the new face of the franchise in Philadelphia is starting to look game-ready.
Six days after he was forced to leave a game against the Blue Jays after being hit by a pitch, Harper retaliated by hitting two home runs against Toronto on Thursday. In Harper’s first at-bat of the afternoon, he belted a two-run shot off Sam Gaviglio.
Philly newcomers J.T. Realmuto and Andrew McCutchen also went deep as the Phillies built a huge lead with six runs in the fourth inning. Harper capped the sixth inning with the team’s sixth homer of the game – a towering shot out of the park off Thomas Pannone.
The Mariners and Athletics kicked off MLB’s regular season a week early in Japan, but the new-look Phillies will open their year at home against Atlanta on Thursday, March 28th.
