Bryce Harper immediately silenced a heckling Giants fan after hitting a home run

It should go without saying, but the “overrated” chant is one of the dumber chants in sports. It’s not original, and it rarely ends well.

Just ask this San Francisco Giants fan who provided Bryce Harper with an extra source of motivation on Friday night.

As Harper stepped to the plate in the fifth inning to face Tyler Beede, a fan at Oracle Park could audibly be heard screaming “overrated” at the Phillies outfielder.

Bad idea.

As tends to happen in these situations, Harper immediately responded with a long home run to right-center field. Upon contact, he turned to the fan and gestured.

Then, Harper shushed the crowd as he crossed home plate.

He wasn’t done either. In the seventh inning, Harper hit his second home run of the night, sending a three-run home run into McCovey Cove.

I don’t want to say that this strong response from Harper was all one fan’s fault, but I’m also not prepared to rule it out. Let this be a lesson: Don’t do the “overrated” chant.
