Bryce Harper helped the Phillies do something for the first time in 104 years

The Philadelphia Phillies have been playing baseball for well over a century, but the team has rarely been known for its blazing starts to the season. On Tuesday at Nationals Park, Bryce Harper rebounded from two early strikeouts to Max Scherzer by going 3-for-3 in his final three plate appearances, with three RBI and a colossal home run to right field.

With an 8-2 win over the Nationals, the Phillies improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season. It’s the first time Philadelphia has started a season with four wins since 1915.

The 1915 Philadelphia Phillies, led by Hall of Fame pitcher Pete Alexander, won 90 games to top the National League, and became the first Phillies team to advance to the World Series. Philadelphia lost the series 4-1 to Babe Ruth and the Boston Red Sox.

After a slow start to spring training, Harper has settled in nicely to the third spot in the Phillies lineup, with six hits and three home runs in 14 at-bats.
