A thug who stabbed a man with a screwdriver after it was claimed he had sexually assaulted a woman has been jailed for ten months.
Darryl McGregor, 30, burst into Samuel Brown's flat and punched him before stabbing him on the leg.
He was incensed after being told that Brown had attacked the woman and exposed himself.
McGregor, of Bellshill , Lanarkshire, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted assaulting Brown in May last year.
Depute fiscal Vish Kathuria said: "The day before the complainer had offered the woman refuge in his flat after they were locked out and it was cold, there was a young child present.
"The next day he was sitting in his living room when the accused barged in to his house through an insecure front door.
"He shouted 'no-one touches my woman' and then punched and kicked the complainer on the body and grabbed a screwdriver that was lying and stabbed him to the left leg above the knee before leaving."
Nicky Matteo, defending, said: "The day before this, the complainer had given some assistance when she was locked out.
"Nothing untoward happened between them, and that is the position of the Crown, but the accused and the woman do advise differently.
"The girl is eight years of age. She says she saw him touch her on the chest and expose himself and that was relayed to the accused and he accepts he lost it and acted as described."
Sheriff Douglas Brown told McGregor he would have been caged for 12 months if he had not pled guilty.
Prosecutors accepted a not guilty plea to a charge which said McGregor had attempted to extort £120 from Brown after threatening him with an allegation of a sexual nature.
And he also denied striking him repeatedly with a knife.
