Lidl’s brand new Christmas advert takes a swipe at Ald'’s iconic Kevin the Carrot, and has left viewers in a frenzy.
The two bargain retailers often go head to head, with the two German businesses considered rivals by many.
Both retailers released their 2020 Christmas adverts last week, with Aldi's seeing the return of Kevin the Carrot - and Lidl’s making a cheeky reference to the lovable character.
Lidl took things one step further too, when the vocalist in its ad explains you "don't need cutesy characters when carrots taste this good" – before a carrot looking suspiciously like a well-cooked Kevin is poked with a fork, reports BirminghamLive.
Ryan McDonnell, commercial director at Lidl GB explained that the brand wanted to give viewers a little bit of entertainment this Christmas.
And it definitely worked.
Fans took to social media to discuss the advert, with one shopper labelling it "amazing".
Another added: "Brutal Kevin reference in Lidl ad…"
A third said: "That Kevin swipe in the Lidl advert..."
A fourth said the advert was "absolutely savage".
