Brutal Lorraine tells Priti Patel thousands died on her watch due to 'woeful' inaction

Good Morning Britain 's Lorraine Kelly had some harsh words for Home Secretary Priti Patel in a savage live interview.

Lorraine told her it was "utterly" bizzare that people arriving in the UK were not being tested for the coronavirus and that they weren't being put in quarantine.

"On testing and on PPE in the UK, it has been woeful," Lorraine told the MP, and asked how she deals with knowing thousands of people died of coronavirus "on her watch".

She also brought up the bullying accusations which have been levelled at the Home Sec from her colleagues.

Lorraine took no prisoners as she quizzed Priti on how she sleeps at night with all this fierce criticism levelled at her.

Lorraine asked Priti Patel how she finds the will to go to work after thousands of deaths and fierce criticism (ITV)

The host asked: "I wonder how you are coping on a human level, because on your watch so many deaths.

"People saying it could be as high as 60,000, the Prime Minister was at death's door.

"You've come in for an awful lot of criticism, remember when you took the Downing Street briefing, you got a lot of criticism for that.

"You've been accused of bullying, you've been accused of all sorts of things.

Priti said she was a politician and she was serving her country and PM (ITV)

"As a human being, how do you deal with that every day and get up and go and do your work and carry on?"

Priti replied: "Well first of all Lorraine, I'm a politician.

“My main priority is to serve my country and to serve the Prime Minister who’s put me in this role and to do the best job that I possibly can.

"I cannot let that criticism get to me. We’re in a national emergency and all of us, collectively, are doing our utmost to stop the spread of this virus."

The Home Secretary fielded questions about domestic violence and international arrivals (ITV)

She added: "I’m here to serve, to deliver for the British public.”

Lorraine demanded action over the rapidly rising domestic violence incidents during lockdown, and Priti said she was today announcing a new hidden harm summit that will drive an action plan covering vulnerable people and domestic abuse victims.

She added: “We’ve provided money - I announced £2 million about four weeks ago and half of that has already gone to the frontline.

"The government announced another £76million across the board to go out and get more refuge spaces, more equipment, particularly for people who work in domestic abuse."

Lorraine also slammed the lack of testing and quarantining for the many people arriving in the UK every day on airplanes.

Priti argued that travel is 97% down, and that those arriving are here for trading purposes or returning expats.
