Manchester United supporters have called into question L’Equipe’s player ratings after the club beat Villarreal 2-0 to qualify for the Champions League last 16.
The French paper notably marked down the United starting eleven despite the victory and clean sheet.
Donny van de Beek was given a score of three out of ten, with Cristiano Ronaldo - who scored the opening goal - and David De Gea both handed sevens.
Jadon Sancho only scored a six after scoring his first goal for the club.
Harry Maguire was also rated a six while the rest of the side were given either a four or a five.
Conversely, L’Equipe gave Villarreal a more healthy rating with every starting eleven player scoring a five or a six.
Their team average was a score of 5.6 while United’s was lower at 5.1.
The outlet gave Michael Carrick a six for his efforts in his first game in charge since the exit of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Puzzled United fans took to Twitter to vent their bemusement at L’Equipe’s ratings.
@Allen_773: Some strange ones there, Maguire better rated than Lindelof?
@UtdNoodle: Maguire with a better rating than Lindelof… jokers.
@jimtend0: Van der Beek was not worse than McTominay yesterday.
@NikSimonovski: Fred, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lindelöf should be higher, Maguire should be lower.
L’Equipe has built a reputation on it’s tough-to-please ratings.
It has only ever scored a player ten out of ten 13 times in its history.
The first to get maximum points was Franck Sauzee in 1988 with the most recent being Kylian Mbappe after he scored four goals against Kazakhstan in France’s 8-0 World Cup qualifying win earlier this month.
It's strict scoring shone through in its ratings of Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The Blues swept aside Juventus 4-0 to advance through to the knock-outs but the highest score it gave a player was an eight for Reece James.
The lowest the paper scored a Blues player was six.
It went in hard on Juventus, with only ten players scoring either four or three to give a mean score of 3.9.
Meanwhile, MEN has provided its own player ratings for United's victory over Villarreal.
