Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor is not convinced on Spurs midfielder Harry Winks’ chances of becoming a starter with the club amid transfer links to Villa Park.
The England international has fallen down the pecking order in north London, with rumours swirling that Dean Smith is considering the midfielder ahead of a summer switch.
football.london understands that the midfielder is currently happy to stay with Spurs heading into the new season but the club would consider a sale if a realistic amount is offered.
Despite that, Agbonlahor has talked down Winks’ chances of breaking into the starting line-up at Villa Park should a move occur.
Talking to Football Insider, the ex-forward said: “Winks would be a great signing but I wouldn’t pick Winks before McGinn, Luiz or Nakamba.
“Just because he’s a good player it doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to get into the team.
“Maybe as a player who can push McGinn and Luiz then he’s definitely worth bringing in. But he wouldn’t come in and be a guaranteed starter.”
Winks certainly found opportunities hard to come by with his current employers last season.
Despite making 30 appearances in all competitions under Jose Mourinho and then Ryan Mason, he made just nine starts in the Premier League, although was afforded the final two matches of the campaign.
The ten-time England international has three years left to run on his current contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
In all, he has made 173 appearances for Spurs since his first outing during the 2015/16 campaign, only managing to score four goals in that time.
