A brutal gang attack took place in an Ayrshire house last night.
Four men piled into a property in Caldon Road, Irvine at around 9.50pm and seriously assaulted the 58-year-old.
Police and an ambulance raced to the scene and the man was taken to hospital to be treated for lacerations.
He was later released, police confirmed this afternoon.
The four men responsible were all wearing dark-coloured clothing.
Detective Constable Ross Keenan of Saltcoats police station said: “We have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and checking CCTV footage to gather more information on the four men responsible for this violent attack.
“I would ask anyone who has information on their identity, or anyone with information that may assist our ongoing investigation to contact officers through 101 quoting reference 4162 of 5 June. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
