Brutal Coronation Street rooftop showdown for Alya and Geoff on Yasmeen's blazing house

Actress Sair Khan has opened up about filming the tense showdown between her character Alya Nazir and step-father Geoff Metcalfe for Coronation Street's 60th anniversary.

The ITV soap's dark abuse storyline will come to an explosive end in court as a jury decides on whether Yasmeen is guilty of the attempted murder of Geoff.

Yasmeen stabbed Geoff with a broken bottle as he cornered her after a year of torment and abuse, but he accused her of attacking him unprovoked.

But there will also be a dramatic showdown between Alya and Geoff which involved a stunt and left actress Sair with a fair few bruises.

Following the trial, Alya and Geoff go head to head once again at Speed Daal. But as their argument escalates, Geoff attacks Alya and leaves her for dead before returning to No. 6 to burn the house down.

Alya later follows Geoff back for a dramatic rooftop showdown...

Speaking to The Mirror and other news outlets, the actress said: "I'm touting myself as the next action woman [so] I'm gutted that we had to have stunt people because I would have been hanging off that roof all week if I had been given the opportunity. I really, really enjoyed it.

"It's not often that you get to do these kinds of things with the show. When I first started I was in a coach crash but hanging off the roof was something else.

"They actually gave us this little plank to rest our feet on when we were hanging off the roof. I refused to use the plank! I had bruises at the end of it because I just wanted it to be so authentic. Probably geeking out a bit too much there!

"But it was so much fun!"
