With 180 nationalities, 100 languages spoken and two out of three residents born abroad, Brussels is the second most cosmopolitan city in the world after Dubai. Eve Jackson visits the Belgian capital to find out what this diversity means for the cultural life of a city. She meets Iraqi refugee musician Hussein Rassim and second-generation Congolese rapper Badi to ask them what role culture plays in helping this mix of people live together.
She also visits Molenbeek – the small district in the centre of Brussels that’s become notorious as an alleged breeding ground for terrorists – where she speaks to the people trying to give a human face to the area through art and culture.
