Bruno Guimaraes welcomed to Newcastle United with a brilliant Wor Flags display

Newcastle United's big-money January signing Bruno Guimaraes was welcomed in style to St James' Park as supporters group Wor Flags unveiled a flag in his honour.

The Brazilian, who signed from Lyon last month, was named on the bench for the crucial clash against Everton - and looked up to the Strawberry Corner to see his very own banner.

It was a simple but effective flag to welcome him, the midfielder in a Newcastle shirt accompanied with the words 'Bem Vindo Bruno' - which translates as 'welcome Bruno.'

It's not the first time Wor Flags have welcomed new arrivals to the club - Miguel Almiron and Eddie Howe among some who were given their own displays.

A spokesman for Wor Flags said: "We think it’s very important for a new signing, especially one who has come from abroad and one as prolific as Bruno, that they receive the warmest welcome to our city and our football club."

The Bruno flag was part of a huge display across the ground with the group lending several flags to those in the Leazes End - while pulling out the big surfer flag for those in the Gallowgate.

Speaking about his move to Tyneside, Bruno told reporters: "I am driven by challenges - that’s what I want.

"It's always been my dream to play in the Premier League and I've never hidden that.

"The people here at Newcastle really wanted me here, which is so good to hear.

"When you join a project right at the beginning, it gives you more morale and respect from the fans. The fans are so happy for me to be here - that was the determining factor in my decision."
