Bruno Guimaraes claims assist for Brazil in first appearance since Newcastle United transfer

At the start of this season it would have been difficult for Newcastle United fans to imagine watching one of their players playing a role in a World Cup qualifying win for Brazil but that's what happened in the early hours of this morning.

The Magpies ' marquee signing, Bruno Guimaraes came off the bench in the second half to provide the assist for the Selecao's final goal in a 4-0 win.

His run into the box was found by a disguised pass from Ajax winger, Antony. Guimaraes then showed composure to slide the ball across the goal for Rodrygo of Real Madrid to tap into an empty net and put the gloss on a dominant performance for Brazil.

Guimaraes played in a more attacking role than he might be earmarked to play at St James' Park as Brazil lined up in a 4-3-3 with Fabinho playing at the base of the midfield and he demonstrated that he is able to provide thrust going forwards as well as being very adept at winning the ball in the middle of the pitch.

Two of Brazil's other goals were scored by players from Newcastle's rival Premier League teams as Leeds United's Raphinha opened the scoring, whilst one of Aston Villa's January signings, Coutinho added the second goal.

Guimaraes will now travel to Newcastle to meet his new teammates for the first time and will hope to make his debut as the club face Everton on February 8. They will hope that the Brazilian's impact - along with other new signings Dan Burn and Matt Targett help the team to consecutive wins for the first time all season.
