Bruno Fernandes urged to follow Cristiano Ronaldo's example as Man Utd figurehead

Bruno Fernandes has revealed that backroom staff at Manchester United have encouraged him to follow his international teammate Cristiano Ronaldo's example at Old Trafford by wishing them good morning.

Big things are expected of Fernandes following his superb start to life at the club, with the 25-year-old having scored four goals and created four assists since joining in January.

Despite playing in different positions, comparisons are being made between him and former United great Ronaldo, with both Portuguese players having joined United from Sporting Lisbon.

And speaking to SoccerBible's The Dial Up, Fernandes said he was quickly reminded about the impact Ronaldo had on the club when he first arrived.

"When I arrived at Manchester United, people in the kitchen would say 'do you know, every day when Cristiano came in he would go around and say good morning to everyone.'" Fernandes recalled.

"Two ladies come to me every day and say 'You know Cristiano did that, you need to do the same.'

“Manchester United are one of the biggest teams in the world. You need to respect the history of a club like this. When you join, you have to think about all those big players who have played there. Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Cristiano - I could stay here for a long time listing them…”

Fernandes also spoke about his ambitions to win the Premier League with United, and does not think they will have to wait too long until they experience success.

"You need to know that when you come and join a team like this, you have to focus on winning titles," he added. "Titles are the most important thing. It doesn’t matter how you play but you have to play to win.

“This is the kind of team that is born to be at the top. The expectations I have for Manchester United are big. This is my dream club. But when I arrived I saw just how big it was."
