Bruno Fernandes transfer poser leaves Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fizzing

Under-fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit out at a reporter after being asked if Bruno Fernandes remains a transfer target.

The Sporting Lisbon star's on-off move to Manchester United has been the biggest story of the window so far as United chase reinforcements.

The Portuguese international was expected to complete £55m plus add-ons move to Old Trafford but talks have stalled in recent days.

It's understood United have doubts over the outlay for a player they decided against signing last summer.

And the injury to Marcus Rashford means supporters are desperate for updates ahead of the close of the window on Friday.

But Solksjaer was left seriously unimpressed by a media member asking about signings ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final return with rivals Manchester City.

The Norwegian, speaking at his pre-match press conference, said: "I haven’t got any updates for you on transfers.

"I think it was a waste (of a question), I gave you the option. I haven’t got anything to say now, my mind is on the game,"

But Solskjaer insists the Old Trafford hierarchy remains focused on improving the squad but has fired a warning over making deals happen at this time of year.

He added: "We've got players here we're working hard to get back as well and if there is something out there, then the club are pursuing that and looking at it.

"Of course it is a difficult window. It always has been. I can't remember how many good ones we've brought in, good deals that we've brought in in January. Henrik (Larsson) was good, Nemanja (Vidic) and Patrice (Evra) were two good ones."

And Solskjaer has backed Alexis Sanchez to come back to Old Trafford and silence his doubters once his loan deal expires at Inter Milan.

"It's very hard because the clubs don't want to lose their best players. Alexis will come back in the summer and prove you all wrong."
