Bruno Fernandes transfer breakthrough as Manchester United close in on £55m deal for No.1 target

Manchester United are on the verge of securing No.1 target Bruno Fernandes after Sporting Lisbon relented on their eye-watering demands.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's held firm during protracted signing talks and are now nearing a £55m deal for their No.1 transfer target.

The Mirror report a deal is close to be concluded and Fernandes could become a United player before the end of the week.

Lisbon's star man has been attracting interest from a host of top clubs over the past 18 months due to his ability to find the back of the net.

It appeared the signing saga of the January transfer window was about to collapse over the weekend but United 's bid of bid of £46.78m, which could rise to £55m with add-ons set to be accepted.

Lisbon were aiming for £60m for their captain and most influential player – an initial £51m plus £8.5m in add-ons - but a revised figure should seal the Portuguese international's switch to Old Trafford - according to reports in Portugal.

The Primeira Liga side, who have been beset by financial difficulties, will now look to tie up a deal to bring Celtic target Andraz Sporar to the club during the January window in a £6.5m deal.

United's need for firepower is urgent with star man Marcus Rashford is set for an extended spell on the sidelines with a back complaint.
