Bruno Fernandes told to improve his body language after "disappointing" Man Utd displays

Bruno Fernandes is struggling to make an impression on games for Manchester United and his body language is "not good", according to Steve McClaren.

United played out a goalless draw against Chelsea on Saturday in which Fernandes - often the man who keeps the Red Devils ticking over - was uncharacteristically quiet.

The Portuguese midfielder started the match in his usual No. 10 berth but was shifted to the right flank in the second half.

Fernandes has started the season well with four goals and three assists in seven games across all competitions - but former United assistant coach McClaren believes the player is out of sorts.

“I’ve been watching Bruno Fernandes and he’s disappointed”, McClaren said while covering the match for talkSPORT .

"He’s disappointed because he’s been taken out of the middle and he’s out on the right-hand side.

“I saw it last week against Newcastle, when he went out wide, and I’m seeing it again now. His body language is not good, he’s not getting involved.

“He needs to be in the game and on that right-hand side he’s not moving from there, he’s got to move from there, he’s got to get his head up and get back into the game and affect the game.

Fernandes' performance was described as "disappointing" by McClaren (PA)

"At the moment he’s just standing out on the right and he’s making it very easy for [ Chelsea left-back] Ben Chilwell.”

Fernandes has featured in all five of his side's Premier League games this season, while United are 15th after two wins, one draw and two defeats.

The 26-year-old opened the scoring as the Red Devils beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 earlier this week, while their next Champions League fixture sees them face Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig on Wednesday.
