Bruno Fernandes to Man Utd transfer could be off- because of Ed Woodward

Manchester United chairman Ed Woodward is reportedly hesitating on a deal to bring Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes to the club.

The 24-year-old has impressed in the Portuguese Primeira Liga this season, scoring 19 goals in 31 appearances and breaking into the Portugal national side in the process.

This has led to interest from the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool as well as United, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side appear to be close to missing out on the transfer due to Woodward's stalling.

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo Woodward is 'hesitant' about the deal and is wary of spending yet another large sum of money on a player who has not yet tested himself at the very highest level.

Woodward has made some questionable signings in the past, most notably Chilean flop Alexis Sanchez, and is worried about buying yet another player who may not produce the goods at Old Trafford.

It was reported that Fernandes' agent was due to fly to London this weekend, but after United's indecision it is unclear if he will be meeting with Woodward or not.

If United do pull out of a deal it will likely leave Spurs in the best position to sign Fernandes.

They are him up as a possible replacement for Christian Eriksen if he leaves the club, with the Dane recently admitting he is looking for a new challenge away from Tottenham.

Solskjaer has already stated his desire to make changes at United this summer, with a number of incomings and outgoings expected as he aims to improve on this season's disappointing campaign.

The club have also been linked with the likes of Crystal Palace's Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Leicester City's James Maddison, and are expected to complete a deal for Swansea City's highly-rated midfielder Daniel James in the coming days after a deal was agreed.
