Bruno Fernandes ties Premier League assist record alongside Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career at Old Trafford - (PA)

Bruno Fernandes has tied the Premier League’s assist record for a single campaign after drawing level with Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne on 20.

The Portuguese midfielder has enjoyed a fine season, earning him the FWA Footballer of the Year ahead of Declan Rice and others after playing a big part in United’s resurgence under Michael Carrick.

Fernandes set up Bryan Mbeumo with a cross from the right against Nottingham Forest to move ahead of Mesut Ozil and break his tie for third.

Fernandes moved to 19 assists this term after teeing up Benjamin Sesko in United's 2-1 win against Brentford, but he was forced to wait for his 20th until today after being denied an assist against Liverpool due to a deflection before the Slovenian striker converted once more.

Fernandes, who had admitted in recent weeks that the record was “in my mind”, could add to his total in the final game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion.

“It's something that I think about because we are talking about Kevin and Thierry, they were two of the best players that the Premier League has seen in a long, long time,” Fernandes admitted.

"Having the chance to be up there with their names — just for this category, let's not talk about the rest they have done in the Premier League — is very good and I'm very proud of that."
