Bruno Fernandes spotted interrupting Man Utd celebration to have a word with Daniel James

Bruno Fernandes has lifted the standards at Manchester United - and that was apparent even after his goal against Leeds United at the weekend.

Fernandes fired in a well-placed strike as the Red Devils stormed into a 3-0 lead against their rivals at Old Trafford.

But, as team-mates congratulated him, he had just one thing on his mind.

Fernandes instantly pointed to Daniel James and tried to talk to him as he was mobbed by team-mates.

And he got away from the celebrations to seek out James and give him some tactical advice before action resumed.

Behind the scenes footage shared by Manchester United on their YouTube channel showed Fernandes gesture to the Welsh winger and give him some advice.

He appeared to be showing him to open his body and his advice paid off as James, handed a surprise start by Solskjaer, found the net in the second half of the 6-2 rout.

Fernandes’ leadership qualities have not gone unnoticed since his January arrival, and they were again praised by club legend Gary Neville on Monday night.

Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Neville said: “There’s Paul Pogba, there’s David de Gea, there’s Maguire, they’ve all been captain of the team, Cavani with his experience.

“He (Fernandes) is the leader in that team, leader by example. Leader by what he does when he gives the ball away, he sprints straight after it.

"Every time the team are on the ball, he wants the ball. Every time he gets the ball, he wants to play a pass that matters.

“He’s transformed, I’d say, the whole club from a point of view of if he doesn’t play, it’s a massive problem, and that’s a big issue when you’re almost reliant on him.

“Of all the midfield players they’ve got - Van de Beek, Pogba, Fred, Matic, McTominay - he is just the one absolutely out there as the one of those three midfield players that pick themselves.

“Fernandes has been an absolute sensation at United - he’s the leader of that team and if it’s not him wearing the armband, he could be.”
