Bruno Fernandes set Premier League record in Manchester United defeat to Aston Villa

Manchester United's weekend defeat to Aston Villa is not one which will last long in the memory of any fan.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side lost for the third time in their last four matches thanks to Kortney Hause's late headed goal in a match which saw talisman Bruno Fernandes spur a huge opportunity to level scores when he blasted an added time penalty over the bar.

Fernandes is usually reliable in crucial moments of a match and his rare off day from 12-yards was a fitting reflection of the overall drop in standards which was seen across the pitch.

However, even in defeat the Portuguese play maker still managed to notch another positive Premier League record and do something which he had never previously done since moving to English football last year.

That's because Fernandes made 10 key passes for United against Aston Villa on Saturday; no player has made more in a Premier League match since the start of the 2017/18 season.

A quick glance at the scoreline makes it appear as though United offered little in attack, but it is credit to the former Sporting man that he remained so dangerous in possession of the ball throughout the encounter.

United are fourth in the table after their shock defeat, only one point off the top and with players like Fernandes at their disposal there is no need to panic yet.
