Bruno Fernandes sends message to Phil Jones ahead of Manchester United comeback

Bruno Fernandes says he is 'really happy' to see Phil Jones back in contention for Manchester United after a long spell on the sidelines.

Jones, 29, has not played for United in eighteen months but is now back training with the first-team squad and in a position to be involved at some stage this season.

The English defender featured for United's U23 side earlier in the month as he stepped up the next stage of his recovery and was named on the bench for defeat to West Ham in the Carabao Cup last week.

His next goal will be to return to action for the senior side in the weeks ahead and Fernandes says he is delighted to see his teammate back involved on a daily basis.

“At the same time, we have Phil [Jones] coming back to start playing with the Under-23s – we are really happy to have him back after a long, long stop for him," Fernandes told United Review when discussing he club's defensive options. "It’s been difficult for him, being out of the team for a long time."

Last week Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised the defender for his professionalism as he continues his way back to full fitness.

“I’m so happy for Phil,” Solskjaer told the club's official website. “He has completed two 90 minutes for the Under-23s, played some minutes behind closed doors and he’s got no reaction on his knee. He’s been working really hard.”
