Bruno Fernandes sends message to Manchester United supporters after Liverpool performance

Bruno Fernandes told Manchester United's supporters that dogged performances are sometimes the most important after Sunday's goalless draw at Anfield.

The Portugal international was not at his brilliant best on Merseyside and made way for Mason Greenwood in the closing stages as United searched for a winner.

Fernandes had one free-kick that whistled just wide in the first half and drew a fine save from Alisson with a close-range effort after the break but was generally wasteful on the ball.

Roy Keane claimed the 26-year-old's performance was disappointing, telling Sky Sports: "[Marcus] Rashford, for me, never turned up, Fernandes didn't play that well either but they still created the best two chances in the game."

Fernandes too, was clearly frustrated with his own output and posted a picture of himself looking frustrated at Anfield, along with a caption which translated as: "One day when you look back, you will see that the most beautiful days were the ones you fought."

The result leaves United top of the Premier League standings and three points ahead of Liverpool, and two ahead of both Manchester City and Leicester.

United are next in action on Wednesday night as they travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham. Second-placed City also play that night, against Aston Villa, before Liverpool, now in fourth, host Burnley the following day.
