Bruno Fernandes responds to Man Utd selling Dan James after club backtrack on his future

Bruno Fernandes has responded to the departure of Daniel James from Manchester United as the 23-year-old sealed his deadline move to Leeds United.

James' exit sees him call time on two years at Old Trafford, in which he somewhat struggled to live up to the hype created by his stellar start - the Welshman bagging a debut goal in a memorable 4-0 home victory over Chelsea.

United signed James from Championship side Swansea City just months after he was initially meant to move to Leeds, though the switch to Elland Road fell through after failing to get all paperwork completed before the deadline.

Former teammate Fernandes was one of the first United players to respond to the news James had been sold, taking to Instagram to wish the winger well ahead of his move to Marcelo Bielsa's side.

Despite some stern criticism over the standard of his performances from certain sections of the United faithful, James actually boasts quite the impressive statistic - he has not tasted defeat in a single Premier League match since last season's opening day defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was thought to be a keen admirer of James, but in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival, could not guarantee as much first-team football as James would have liked.

This came as somewhat of a surprise to him, given according to T he Athletic, the 23-year-old was reassured he was still very much part of Solskjaer's plans on Saturday - a day after the Ronaldo move was announced.

In the wake of this, James reportedly informed Leeds that he would stay at Man Utd and fight for his place, but just over 24 hours later, the landscape changed once again.

James was informed on Sunday evening he would be a "long way" down United's attacking pecking order and could find minutes hard to come by this season.

As a result, he U-turned and phoned Leeds on Monday with less than 48 hours of the window left to inform the Elland Road hierarchy he wanted to join.

This sparked somewhat of a bidding frenzy from Leeds, who inundated United with three separate bids within the space of an hour to try and get the move over the line.

They succeeded and James finally becomes a Leeds player, two years after his switch to the club fell through at the last minute.
