Bruno Fernandes showed exactly the inner justice Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to see in his players at Manchester United during their stunning 3-2 comeback over Southampton on Saturday.
United fell behind to a Jan Bednarek header and James Ward-Prowse free-kick in the first half. But Edinson Cavani's introduction at half-time proved to be the difference.
The former PSG striker set up Fernandes before bagging two headers in what was his finest moment since signing for the club on transfer deadline day.
But it was Fernandes's reaction to Cavani's first goal, the equaliser, which has drawn some attention.
While Cavani and a number of his United team-mates went to the corner to celebrate, Fernandes was screaming at them to come back. He was desperate for United to go on and grab a winner.
Fernandes has shown his true feelings before, mainly berating his fellow players during and after the Tottenham mauling.
And it's something Solskjaer touched on just hours before the Southampton fixture, on Saturday.
“Bruno in not just giving out rollockings, he’s also instructing players," said the United boss.
“We can all learn from his mentality and mindset - that winning mentality.
“If it’s 2-0 he wants 3-0, if it’s 4-0 he wants 5-0. He always wants the team to improve.
“In the heat of the moment, people are also allowed to air their frustration and be angry for a second or two.
“If it lingers on that’s a different scenario. But I’ve been in a team and I like my teams to have that inner justice, where it’s not just the managers and the coaches who shout.
“I want players to take responsibility and put other players into their places when it’s necessary.
“They're out there fighting for one cause - and that’s for the team to win.
“The players have reacted really well to Bruno.
“We see different kinds of leadership. Some lead by example, some lead by both.
“And once in a while you just have to take a rollicking when you deserve one.”
Fernandes's desire for his team to not waste time celebrating and go on and grab a winner is exactly what Solskjaer wants to see at the club.
