Bruno Fernandes pictured at airport as he edges closer to transfer to Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes was pictured at an airport on Tuesday evening ahead of his proposed move to Manchester United.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder finally looks set to complete his dream transfer after United agreed on a fee with the Primeira Liga club.

Manchester United are ready to pay £46.6million up front for the midfielder with two additional payments. The first of these is £8.5million, while the second is £12.7million, and both will be paid out in full on the completion of certain clauses being triggered.

This would see the total package United pay for Fernandes hit the £67.8million mark.

Fernandes is due in Manchester on Wednesday to complete his medical at the club's Carrington training centre. Following this he will put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half year deal with the Old Trafford club.

The Sporting star's friend Carolina Deslandes posted an image of the duo in an airport lift, complete with a plane emoji, to her Instagram story.

Barcelona made a last-ditch attempt to hijack Manchester United's move for Fernandes by making an offer for the midfielder themselves.

The Catalan giants had plans to snap up the Portuguese and then send him to Valencia on loan, but Fernandes admitted would rather join a Premier League club.

On Tuesday, Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked to provide an update on United's pursuit of Fernandes.

The Norwegian provided a cagey response, saying: "You're wasting it [your time].

"So don't ask it. I haven't got any updates for you on transfers. I think it was a waste [of a question]. I gave you the option. I haven't got anything to say now, my mind is on the game."
