Bruno Fernandes partnership unleashed as Man United settle on pairing for Tottenham clash

Tottenham take on Manchester United in their first fixture since the Premier League season was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Both sides have stepped up their preparations ahead of the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday night, with practice matches being staged to bring both squads up to fitness.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho will be desperate to get one over his former club, as well as hauling the north Londoners back into the top four race.

A victory over United would see Spurs climb to fifth, just two points behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men. Defeat, however, and the Red Devils would open up a seven point cushion over Tottenham.

Ahead of the clash, Solskjaer has been putting his squad through their paces at United's Carrington training base.

As reported by The MEN, United have been experimenting with playing Paul Pogba and January signing Bruno Fernandes together.

The creative midfield pair teamed up in the recent behind-closed-doors game against West Brom but tasted defeat. Pogba and Fernandes could also both be seen playing on the same team in training.

Whether Solskjaer intends to unleash the pair remains to be seen, but it is evident that the United boss is keen to see how his two most talented midfielders play together.

Elsewhere, the MEN also spotted that United centre-back duo Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe appeared to be on the same side in training.

The two players are considered as back-up to Solskjaer's first choice pairing of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, which would suggest United are in no rush to break up the partnership for the Spurs game.

Speaking ahead of the match, Solskjaer says he expects to have a fully fit squad for the trip to north London.

“Well, we hope everybody’s going to be ready for the first game,” he told the official United website.

“We’ve had time out so I don’t think we can expect that those lads who’ve missed lots of the football can last the full game. But now the rules have changed, we can use five subs and have nine on the bench.

“I think that’s helpful because footballers, after being out for so long, going into competitive games will be a challenge for them and we have to look after them injury-wise and fitness-wise. We can’t just flog one player and say to them, ‘you play every game and every minute’ because it might be a period when we have to rotate quite often.”

For Spurs, Dele Alli will definitely miss the game as he serves a one-match suspension imposed by the Football Association for misconduct.
