Bruno Fernandes names change Donny van de Beek has made at Manchester United

Bruno Fernandes has praised Manchester United teammate Donny van de Beek for the good shape he has returned to pre-season training in.

After arriving from Ajax amid much fanfare last summer, Van de Beek endured a difficult first season at United, which saw the midfielder start just four times in the Premier League.

The Dutchman suffered another blow on the eve of Euro 2020, with an injury ruling him out of the tournament and denying him the chance to represent his country.

However, Van de Beek has clearly put the extra time he gained off this summer as a result to good use as he returned to Carrington for pre-season sporting a much more muscular physique.

Fernandes did play at Euro 2020 for Portugal so only reported for pre-season just over a week ago but has been impressed by Van de Beek in that time, as well as the way the rest of the squad have looked after themselves over the summer.

"As a professional player you always prepare for your season before you come back for training, you always do something before and I think everyone was doing their jobs at home,” Fernandes told United's official site.

“I’m happy to see how everyone is, how happy they are to be back and they are training really hard.”

When asked about Van de Beek specifically, he added: "Yes he’s working hard and working hard in the gym. Obviously he is one of the quality players we know and now he’s building up.”
