Bruno Fernandes makes pledge to Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani amid Man Utd revival

Manchester United have rediscovered the winning formula at the perfect time, with two huge games on the horizon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have a Champions League meeting with Atalanta during the week, with the Manchester Derby to follow on Saturday in the league.

Solskjaer's team got the better of Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend, delivering a 3-0 victory which spelled the end for Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo after just 10 Premier League games in charge.

The match was the first in which United paired Cristiano Ronaldo with Edinson Cavani up front, and both players found the net before substitute Marcus Rashford rounded off the scoring.

Midfielder Bruno Fernandes was asked about the front two ahead of the midweek trip to Bergamo, and his words will come as encouragement to the men playing in front of him.

Fernandes knows Ronaldo very well, having played regular international football with his compatriot, and enjoyed a good relationship with Cavani as the Uruguayan enjoyed a rich vein of goalscoring form towards the end of last season.

However, the front two set-up isn't the only option available to Solskjaer, who has made use of the likes of Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood in wide roles earlier in the season.

Fernandes was asked about the change of approach employed by United in north London, and was unsurprisingly positive in his remarks.

"Obviously the team we have such good quality," Fernandes said in a pre-match press conference.

"They were big part of the result on Saturday but with quality we have it is easy to play behind any striker we have.

"All different but all of them can score goals... I am just there to serve them and make them happy."

United started their last Champions League game against Atalanta with a front three of Ronaldo, Greenwood and Rashford, with Cavani entering from the bench midway through the second half.

The visitors opened up a two-goal lead at the break, only for United to level things up through goals from Rashford and Harry Maguire, followed by a late Ronaldo winner to seal the deal.

Fernandes already has several assists in the competition, including the pass for United's first goal against Atalanta at Old Trafford.

Victory over the Italian side on Tuesday would bring United one step closer to making it out of their group, with matches against Villarreal away and Young Boys at home to follow.

United failed to make it out of their group last season, finishing third behind Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.
