Bruno Fernandes makes Paul Pogba assists prediction for Manchester United

Manchester United attacking-midfield ace Bruno Fernandes believes that Paul Pogba can get even better after he chalked up four assists during Saturday's 5-1 opening day win over Leeds United.

Starting on the left of the front three, the France international — whose future at the club has been under great scrutiny in recent weeks — produced an outstanding display to set up four of United's five goals, the victory sending the Reds to the top of the Premier League table.

Pogba created Fernandes' opening two goals and the strikes for both Mason Greenwood and Fred, highlighting just how important he will be in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side's push for the title this season.

Having started the campaign in such devastating fashion, hat-trick hero Fernandes — who has now scored 29 goals in the Premier League since joining United in January 2020 — hailed his midfield counterpart's performance, insisting that he believes he could produce more than four assists in one game.

Speaking to MUTV about Pogba after the game Fernandes said: "Amazing. He’s doing really well and he’s such a big player. Everybody knows that and I hope he can keep getting better and better, because I think he can still do so much more.

“I’m pretty sure Paul could do five or six [assists] in one game.

"Paul is a quality player; we all trust him, we all know his qualities. The point is making those performances and to help the team do better and I’m pretty sure Paul is here to do that."

Out-of-contract at United next season, the Reds, on this evidence, will be determined to tie the former Juventus man down to a new contract sooner rather than later.

Talks between United and Pogba have been ongoing in recent weeks, but boss Solskjaer believes that the return of supporters to Old Trafford could help convince the France ace to stay at the club.

"The last 18 months have been strange and the only interaction has been through media," Solskjaer said. "You watch the games on telly, you don't have that feeling of connection with the fans today, it's important.

"This is the real Man United, this is how I sold Man United to Edinson: you can't leave after one season not playing with fans. Man United is fans, players and everyone together. So short answer: yes [fans can play a role]!"
