Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has shared his verdict on the club's transfer activity in the summer transfer window.
Jadon Sancho arrived from Borussia Dortmund, making his debut off the bench against Leeds United on the opening day, while Raphael Varane was presented to the supporters before kick-off after concluding his move from Real Madrid.
The pair will provide a considerable boost to United 's hopes this season, with the campaign beginning in perfect fashion after a 5-1 drubbing of Leeds at Old Trafford.
Fernandes believes that the two arrivals will add significant quality to the squad and expects United to build upon the improvements shown last term.
“We know the quality of the players who are coming in now, but the team was already pretty good," he told BT Sport after the game.
"We did well last season and the team was growing. This season we have to do better. This was a statement and from now we have to go again. Game by game we have to do something with that mentality.”
Fernandes was the star figure for United on the opening day, scoring a hat-trick in the comfortable win against Marcelo Bielsa's side, and made his targets for the season clear.
“My achievement every season is to be better than the last one. So, every goal and every performance means that I want to do better in the next one. I scored three goals but there’s a long way to go.”
United now have their eyes cast towards the trip to face Southampton next Sunday, then facing an away match against Wolves before the close of the transfer window.
The season will then halt for the first international break of the campaign, before the return of Champions League football to Old Trafford next month.
