Bruno Fernandes has sent a message to Sporting CP supporters.
The Portugal international is attracting interest from both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, although any deal would have to be completed by Thursday's transfer deadline for Premier League clubs.
In the meantime, Fernandes continues to turn out for Sporting.
However, he had a night to forget on Sunday as Sporting were thumped 5-0 in the Portuguese Super Cup Final by fierce rivals Benfica.
Goals from Rafa Silva, Alex Grimaldo, Chiquinho and a Pizzi brace, sealed an emphatic victory for Benfica and inflicted much embarrassment for Fernandes and company.
And following what could have been his final appearance for the club, Fernandes was notably emotional at the final whistle and now he's issued an apology to the fans.
"This is not a time for many words, it is not a time to raise our heads," he wrote on Instagram.
"It is a time to bow our heads and think about the mistakes we have made and that we should never make them again.
"It is the moment to think about what made us win, cups we won last year and that the unity and fellowship we had led us to these achievements!"
The focus now will turn to Fernandes' future.
Football.london understands that Spurs are involved in discussions with Sporting over a potential move for the attacking midfielder.
This marks somewhat of a u-turn from the north London outfit as they actually weren't in talks earlier in the window when they were heavily linked with Fernandes, instead just monitoring the situation with him and United.
Whether he ends up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium instead of Old Trafford remains to be seen.
