Bruno Fernandes has hinted that he played a role in Cristiano Ronaldo's remarkable return to Manchester United.
In a whirlwind 24 hours, United have confirmed that Ronaldo will be coming back to the club 12-years on from when he left for Real Madrid.
It looked set to be a different story on Thursday when neighbours Manchester City looked as if they were the ones who would be bringing Ronaldo back to the Premier League after they failed to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham.
However, the Manchester Evening News revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson reached out to the 36-year-old on Friday morning to discuss returning to Old Trafford instead.
Club great Rio Ferdinand has also revealed that he personally called his former teammate to dissuade him from joining City.
"It's a beautiful day, man, and when it's a beautiful day you have got to wear shades," Ferdinand told FIVE, donning his sunglasses.
"Sir Alex Ferguson would have been the exact same; he would have hated to see Cristiano in a Man City shirt, just like any other person that's been connected for a long period of time at this football club.
"I rang him straight away, what's going on? Tell me you're lying. Every type of no, no, no in the conversation.
"I'm like all the fans, I'm exactly the same and we are all the same like that. Please tell me you're not going there."
Now it appears that United star Fernades may have also had a role in swaying his fellow countryman to join United instead.
In a quote tweet to the announcement, Fernandes wrote: "‘Agent Bruno’?," with a crying laughing and briefcase emoji, before continuing: "Welcome back home @Cristiano," with praise and goat emojis.
In a statement United confirmed they have reached an agreement with Juventus for Ronaldo, which is subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical.
