Bruno Fernandes has impact on possible Phillipe Coutinho transfer to Man Utd

Philippe Coutinho would have improved Manchester United - but not now Bruno Fernandes has arrived at Old Trafford.

That's the opinion of Rio Ferdinand, who has talked through Coutinho's options ahead of the summer transfer window.

Barcelona paid £142million on Coutinho, but he is currently on loan at Bayern Munich.

The Brazilian isn't expected to sign for the German club and will instead return to Barcelona at the end of the season, where he will look to complete another loan move away from the Camp Nou - perhaps back to England.

Ferdinand believes Coutinho has the ability to lift most teams in the Premier League, and would be a hit at both Arsenal and Tottenham.

But he wouldn't be the top boy at Manchester United due to Fernandes, and subsequently shouldn't sign for the Red Devils.

"He hasn't done amazingly well at Bayern. I think he is a great player, a huge talent, but I think he needs saving," Ferdinand said on Instagram Live.

"Coming to the Premier League, to the right team, would be a saviour for him. I would have said Man United before Bruno Fernandes turned up but not now.

"Would he improve Spurs? Yes he would. Is he a Jose Mourinho player and do they have the finances to get him? I don't know. But he would improve Spurs because people like Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son would feed off him.

"Arsenal, he would imprve them, but where does he play in their system? Is he someone they would like to see replace Mesut Ozil? I don't know, I like Ozil.

"He would improve all the teams I've just listed, but not Man United."
