Bruno Fernandes has growing concerns that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'is holding back' Man Utd

Bruno Fernandes' trust in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is fading at Manchester United with the Portuguese star doubting the Norwegian's ability to take the club forward, according to reports.

The midfielder has been a leading light at Old Trafford since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January.

His arrival was the catalyst for United's upturn in form last term, but a poor start to this season has seen Fernandes question whether Solskjaer is the right man in the dugout.

The 26-year-old was substituted at half-time during the 6-1 defeat against Tottenham after calling out the manager's tactics.

And Fernandes is thought to be the latest member of United's squad that are increasingly concerned over Solskjaer's credentials.

Duncan Castles said on the Transfer Window Podcast : "There is a sense from top level players who have had experience with some of the best coaches in the world that he (Solskjaer) is not world class or top of his field.

"And therefore the club is being held back by that and the worry for him is that feeling has now spread to arguably the best player in the team - Bruno Fernandes.

"We saw in Man Utd's last game that he was substituted at half-time. There has been reports about what he was saying on his way into the dressing room at half-time.

"He was shouting 'we are supposed to be Man Utd, this shouldn't be happening' and that he was questioning Solskjaer's tactics.

"That was one of the things contributed to him being replaced by Fred."

How many players should Solskjaer drop for this weekend's game? Have your say here.

"I'm hearing that Fernandes' opinion is similar to that of other senior players. He does not think that he (Solskjaer) is strong enough to manage the squad and doesn't have capabilities to push the players forward."

Fernandes is also frustrated by United's failure to land any of their top targets in the transfer window.

Jadon Sancho was chased for months but the club failed to land his services.

Castles added: "I understand that Fernandes is angry with the club in the sense that what they did in the summer window did not cohere with expectations of what would happen when he arrived."
