Bruno Fernandes hails Christian Eriksen as Man Utd wish quickly forgotten

Bruno Fernandes has praised Christian Eriksen's impact at Manchester United since his free transfer from Brentford in the summer.

United snapped up Eriksen, 30, after his short-term deal with the Bees expired. The Denmark international was seen as a questionable transfer at the time, as he is best known for playing in attacking midfield - the position Fernandes, 27, occupies at Old Trafford.

Yet manager Erik ten Hag has deployed Eriksen in central midfield, filling a huge void in United's team. The Red Devils have lacked quality in that area in recent years, but that no longer seems to a problem thanks to Eriksen's clever reading of the game.

Eriksen's ability to move the ball forward quickly allows Fernandes to pick up possession in dangerous positions sooner. That was evident in United's 3-1 win against Arsenal, as the ball shifted rapidly from Eriksen to Fernandes to Marcus Rashford for his first goal.

Eriksen's presence will reassure Fernandes, who expressed a wish to play alongside James Garner in April. The Portuguese playmaker didn't get the chance to do that this season, as Garner, 21, was flogged to Everton on transfer deadline day earlier this month.

"It's really good to play with Christian," Fernandes told United's website. He is a player who can find passes, that can find pockets and obviously make my game easier because he can find me when I move in between the lines. It's something that is not easy to do.

"He's a quality player and someone who has shown in the past that he has quality in the Premier League, the Italian league and even for his national team. It is always a pleasure to play with players like him."

Fernandes has also praised Ten Hag's impact. The Dutchman made a disastrous start to his United tenure by losing 2-1 to Brighton and 4-0 to Brentford in his first two games in charge. They've since won consecutive Premier League fixtures, however.

"We know that he has these ideas, he's strict on that, he's straightforward, so that's something good," said Fernandes. "It brings discipline to the team and we need that and even more when you play for a big team. Discipline is something that you really need.

"I think everyone is following that and we have to be all together in the momentum when it's good and when it's bad. It's about doing what he wants us to do. I think everyone has settled in really well, obviously the new signings have been playing."

As well as Eriksen, United signed Casemiro, Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Martin Dubravka in the summer. Fernandes added: "When you play, it's easier to get settled and you get time to know your team-mates, to know the environment, the atmosphere and everything.

"That's really important, but more than that, they have been really good on the pitch. They have made a good impact, a positive impact on the team and we are really happy for all of them."
