Bruno Fernandes finally responds to frosty handshake incident with Cristiano Ronaldo

Bruno Fernandes has finally addressed his awkward exchange with Manchester United and Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in the most light-hearted fashion.

The midfielder was filmed walking into the Portugal dressing room before training as the national team step up their preparations for the Qatar World Cup when he spotted United colleague Ronaldo. This encounter occurred just days after the 37-year-old sat down with Piers Morgan Uncensored to conduct an explosive, tell-all interview.

In the discussion, Ronaldo airs his unfiltered views on everyone from manager Erik ten Hag to Wayne Rooney, but Fernandes may have taken issue with some of the comments centred around United's lack of progression since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

With that in mind, many assumed there was ill feeling when Fernandes initially barely acknowledged Ronaldo in the dressing room, before muttering something to the United number seven that seemingly left him staring blankly back at the midfielder.

However, Fernandes has since tried to clear up any talk of a feud by taking to Instagram to direct attention to Joao Mario's comments on the whole saga.

Mario told reporters: "I was in the locker room at that moment, I saw pictures. It was a joke between them because Bruno was one of the last to arrive and Cristiano asked if he had come by boat. It was a joke between them, they play together."

Fernandes then had his say, re-sharing Mario's comments and adding: "There you are, ruining the covers of newspapers," followed by laughing emojis. It would seem as if there has been no fall-out between the two United stars after all, despite Ronaldo's damning assessment.

"The progress was zero. Since Sir Alex [Ferguson] left, I saw no evolution in the club. Nothing had changed," the five-time Ballon d'Or winner told Morgan, via The Sun.

"I think the fans should know the truth. I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United.

"But you have some things inside that don’t help (us) reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal... a club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not, unfortunately."

Ronaldo's interview has brought headlines to a number of different topics associated with United, but it will come as a relief to the Old Trafford faithful that at the very least there is no ill feeling between two of the club's most high-profile players.

The January transfer window could spell the end of Ronaldo's time as a team-mate of Fernandes at club level.
