Bruno Fernandes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the same page as they back latest academy star

Bruno Fernandes has followed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's lead by praising the club's latest academy star Anthony Elanga.

The United boss has given youth a chance throughout his tenure with a clear pathway being set out from the academy to the first team.

Elanga has been in excellent form this term for the club's U23s, scoring 11 times in 20 appearances.

The teenager is yet to make his debut but has continued to train with the first team.

The 19-year-old was part of the United squad that took on Roma in Thursday's Europa League semi-final second-leg and caught the eye of Fernandes, who is convinced Elanga has a big future.

"He is impressing everyone because he is a really nice kid," he told United’s official website.

"Quiet, works hard. He is really good on the ball, plays with both feet. So he has a future.

"If he puts his head focused on what he has to do and what he can achieve, I think he has a future with us."

Solskjaer spoke highly of Elanga last month when including him in the squad for the quarter-final against Granada.

The Norwegian has been true to the club's traditions by employing a fast-paced counter-attacking style and the youngster suits that game plan.

“I've got faith in the young lads, of course, and, in Anthony, we have a player with good skills, a great attitude and he scores goals from either the right or left, and he's got good pace," Solskjaer said last month.

“He's not just there for experience, he might actually play a part, who knows? He's got that X-factor and I like players with speed and acceleration and he's definitely got that.”
