Bruno Fernandes has reportedly accepted a contract offer from Tottenham.
But Sporting Lisbon are yet to accept a bid for the Portugal international, meaning the transfer hangs in the balance.
Fernandes has been linked with a move away from the Jose Alvalade Stadium all summer with Manchester United and Spurs the two Premier League clubs most strongly linked with him.
Sporting have been unable to reach an agreement with either club over the sale of the midfielder, and time is quickly running out in the transfer window.
According to Portuguese publication Mais Futebol via SportWitness, Fernandes' agent Miguel Pinho visited Sporting chiefs on Wednesday morning to present them with a new bid from Tottenham.
The meeting was apparently 'very short' with Sporting rejecting the offer of £55million including bonuses. The Portuguese club are looking for £64million.
Portuguese publication O Jogo meanwhile claims a deal has been struck between the player and Spurs, with just the transfer fee being agreed holding up the deal.
Fernandes has previously spoken out about his future, making it clear he knows it would be the president who decides, not him.
"The president decides that, not me," he told A Bola. "I don't care about the market, I've talked about this many times.
"The only thing I can do now is that I need to catch the plane so I don't miss it. Will this be the last match for Sporting? I don't know, it's the coach who decides.
"I said I'd like to play in England, but I don't care about it right now. If it could be this season? It could be when the club decides, I'm not in charge."
