CHICAGO _ The Blackhawks fell to the Bruins, 3-2, on Sunday at the United Center.
The Hawks, who clinched the top seed in the Western Conference on Saturday, came out and looked like a team that has almost nothing to play for until the playoffs in allowing the Bruins to claim a 2-0 lead.
Ryan Spooner got the scoring started when he deflected a bouncing shot from Zdeno Chara past goaltender Corey Crawford 6 minutes, 34 seconds into the game.
The Hawks squandered their best chance to score in the period when Duncan Keith went to the box for a tripping penalty during a Hawks power play. On the ensuing 4-on-4 play, Patrice Bergeron fired a shot past Crawford from the top of the right circle at 18:57.
The Hawks got on the board thanks to one of their most unusual goals of the season in the second period. After Richard Panik had ducked to avoid begin hit by a Brent Seabrook slap shot, Panik ended up sliding into the net and found himself behind the goal line, still with his head buried.
Artemi Panarin got the rebound and fired it at the net, and ended up hitting Panik while Panik was still over the goal line. The puck ricocheted back to Panarin who shot it again, and this time hit the back of the net. Panik, after he finally lifted his head, saw that he earned one of the most unique primary assists of the season.
The Bruins got their two-goal lead back in the third period when Kevan Miller beat Crawford at 9:15. But just 25 seconds later, Jordin Tootoo scored his second goal of the season off a feed from John Hayden.
