Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike official ordered to probe assault case, submit report

BENGALURU: BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into a chief engineer's alleged assault on one of the directors of a private company that is filling potholes in the city.

This comes after the high court took cognisance of American Technology Solutions Limited's complaint against BBMP chief engineer (road infrastructure) BS Prahlad.

Giri Nath directed special commissioner (projects) Ravindra PN to conduct a probe and submit a report.

In the court, the company's counsel said at a meeting convened by Prahlad on May 27, the husband of the managing director (who is also one of the directors) was assaulted, punched and pushed by the official. The court was also told that other BBMP staffers saved the man and a written complaint was submitted to the chief commissioner.

The court was hearing a PIL filed in 2015 by Vijayan Menon and others seeking a series of directions, including one to the civic body, for submitting an action-taken report on repairing killer potholes and providing a mechanism for citizens to complain about the poor condition of roads.

Giri Nath told mediapersons: "I have ordered an inquiry into the allegation and instructed a special commissioner to probe the matter within a stipulated timeline."

Ravindra PN told TOI he has issued notice to Prahlad and the company director to appear before him. "I will listen to both sides to ascertain facts before filing the report."
