It’s one of the most controversial debates of our time: is Die Hard a Christmas film?
According to its very own star, Bruce Willis, that’s a defiant no. The actor ended his appearance on The Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis by declaring (via The Hollywood Reporter): “Die Hard is not a Christmas movie”. He then sealed the deal with a harmonica solo.
His opinion does fall in line with the general populace, it appears, after a YouGov poll found that only 31% of those polled actually said they consider films set at Christmas, but not specifically about Christmas, Christmas movies – meaning Die Hard is immediately out of the window.
However, those defiantly holding on to the film’s holiday appeal can at least be reassured that the film’s screenwriter vehemently disagrees.
“How could it not be a Christmas movie?”, Steven E. de Souza tweeted in response, after being asked by CNN anchor Jake Tapper. “Plus a woman about to give birth features prominently.”
The Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis airs on Comedy Central on 29 July.
