Bruce Springsteen to publish autobiography

Feb. 11--The Boss has a book coming out.

Simon Schuster today announced the publication of Bruce Springsteen's autobiography, "Born to Run," which will be published Sept. 27.

"Writing about yourself is a funny business," Springsteen writes in the book, according to the press release. "But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I've tried to do this."

In "Born to Run," Springsteen reflects on his New Jersey upbringing, his early foray into music and the rise of his E Street Band, in addition to documenting the personal struggles that inspired some of his best work, including the song that shares the same name as the book.

"This is the book we've been hoping for," said Jonathan Karp, publisher of Simon Schuster, in a press release. "Readers will see their own lives in Bruce Springsteen's extraordinary story, just as we recognize ourselves in his songs."

Springsteen has been working on the book since 2009, shortly after performing the Super Bowl XLIII halftime show, the statement said.

Springsteen previously has author credits for 2014's "Outlaw Pete," a graphic novel illustrated by Frank Caruso that depicts a bank-robbing baby. "Outlaw Pete" is based on the song of the same name from Springsteen's "Working on a Dream" album.

"Born to Run" will be published by Simon Schuster in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia and India, while the rights have been sold to publishers in nine other countries.
