Bruce's anxious wait on Schar and why it would take something 'mouth-watering' for transfer moves

Steve Bruce says it would take something "mouth watering" for him to dip into the transfer market ahead of the summer window's grand finale.

The Toon boss watched on as Fabian Schar walked off the field with a fresh shoulder problem and the Switzerland international now faces a scan to assess any potential damage.

Schar could get pulled out of international duty for his country after being called up on Friday for games with Croatia and Spain.

But Bruce - who welcomes back Paul Dummett and Ciaran Clark to training soon - will not make any rash decisions.

He said: "We hope that Dummett, Clark and Lascelles will be back in training a week on Monday.

"So we have the international break to get them right.

"I'll not know about Schar until we scan him.

"We hope he hasn't disrupted his shoulder where he's just had surgery."

Bruce was then asked if he would return to the market, and replied: "I don't think I'll be jumping into the market (for anyone) unless something mouthwatering comes along which really makes us want to"

Bruce had been linked with a move for Theo Walcott of Everton in the build-up to the 3-1 win over Burnley.

But shot the rumour down when saying: "I don't know where you've got that from."
