Bruce Irvin contract: Details on his 1-year deal with the Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are getting Bruce Irvin for a steal. According to a report by Jourdan Rodrigue at the Charlotte Observer, Irvin’s new one-year deal with Carolina is worth just $4 million, with incentives that could push it up to $5 million.

Irvin is an excellent fit from a schematic perspective and can play linebacker or defensive end, which will be especially valuable as the team transitions away from a strict 4-3 defensive scheme this year.

Speaking of which, during his conference call with the media, Irvin said he’s more comfortable at linebacker in base sets but feels comfortable in both roles.

At this price, Irvin is a rare signing that’s impossible not to like.
