Bruce Allen says Redskins want Josh Johnson back

If Bruce Allen has his way, the Washington Redskins will have Josh Johnson as part of the quarterback room in 2019.

Johnson was a feel-good story for the Redskins last season as the campaign fell apart for the team. Given the Alex Smith situation, it sounds like the front office would like to get him back under contract.

Team president Bruce Allen revealed the plans:

Johnson had spent years away from significant NFL play before getting a call from the Redskins after a trio of quarterbacks went down.

He proceeded to total four touchdowns and interceptions over as many starts, winning one game. But the spark Johnson provided to the Redskins as a whole on short notice was something teammates and those in charge noticed.

Washington has to decide how it wants to attack quarterback this offseason with Alex Smith likely out for the year. Retaining Johnson and Colt McCoy is one option and it sounds like the Redskins would like to get something done before free agency.
